This website was created to share my strategies and thoughts about classroom instruction.  I’ve had 20 years experience with students ranging from 4th to 8th grade in all subjects from literacy, science, engineering, and mathematics through pre-algebra.  I’ve taught in an urban setting with a high percentage of free and reduced lunch students to a suburban school with 5 percent free and reduced lunch to a rural school with 80 students in the whole middle school where I was the only math teacher and then the only science teacher.  I’ve made mistakes and learned a lot.

The factors I considered when approaching instruction can be summarized in four steps:  content, process, product and presentation. For planning purposes answer the questions:  what should the students know, how will they go about learning, what is the evidence of their learning and how will they present this?

I’ve summarized the three most important words in my approach to teaching different contents areas.
